Do you experience persistent or recurring lower back pain that affects your daily life? Low back pain is one of the most common reasons for consulting an osteopath. Appropriate treatment can help you regain comfort and mobility.

What is low back pain?

Low back pain refers to pain localised in the lumbar region, between the lower edge of the ribs and the buttocks. Two main categories are distinguished:

  • Common low back pain, of mechanical and functional origin, representing around 90% of cases
  • Specific low back pain, secondary to an identified pathology, requiring appropriate medical management

Common low back pain most often results from a combination of factors: sedentary lifestyle, stress, old or recent traumas, or tensions distant from the painful area — which explains the value of a global approach.

Osteopathy for low back pain

For common low back pain, the osteopath evaluates the whole body and looks for mobility restrictions that may be perpetuating the pain, whether in the vertebral column, pelvis, lower limbs or neighbouring visceral structures.

The treatment aims to restore the mobility of these various structures, reduce compensatory tensions and give the body the conditions it needs to recover durably. Personalised advice will help you extend the benefits of treatment in daily life.

Medical noteCertain signs should lead to a prior or urgent medical consultation: fever, urinary disorders, unexplained weight loss, intense nocturnal pain not relieved by rest, neurological deficit or recent violent trauma. In these situations, a medical assessment is essential before any osteopathic treatment.
